IFA 2019: Discover the smart fridge that keeps the kitchen connected
By Adrian Back 06.09.2019
Listen to music, shop for groceries, and leave notes for the family. On show at IFA, all this and more can be done with the LG InstaView ThinQ refrigerator.
One of the most used appliances in any home, the fridge has always been the centrepiece of the kitchen. It is where kids go after heading home from school, where meals are concocted and where handwritten notes and pictures are proudly displayed.
With LG’s InstaView ThinQ refrigerator all of this can be done and more. Being showcased at IFA 2019 and with a sale date coming very soon, this smart appliance features a 29” HD transparent LCD touch-screen which can be used to display messages, set food expiration dates and showcase photos. Essentially it is a family noticeboard.
It also makes discovering exactly what’s left in the fridge incredibly simple, no matter where you are. In fact, thanks to the InstaView, you can check whether you’re short of supplies by remotely viewing a wide-angle camera inside the fridge.
A truly smart appliance, there are a host of ways the InstaView ThinQ refrigerator can make life easier. Below are five examples that prove we are moving ever closer to that elusive Jetsons-like lifestyle.
The ultimate shopping list
Making it easier than ever to keep your fridge well stocked, you can create a shopping list by adding a note on the screen of the InstaView ThinQ. This way you can easily check what you need and thanks to it being connected to the SmartThinQ app, you can even access the list on your mobile phone while at the supermarket.
Alternatively, thanks to this smart fridge having Amazon Alexa built in, you can simply shop from home by ordering your groceries and having them delivered.
Hey, Alexa, recommend a recipe?
Even if you have a huge collection of cookbooks, all too often the recipe you pick requires ingredients you simply don’t have. This problem has been resolved by LG as the intelligent refrigerator recommends delicious recipes based on what is stocked within the fridge.
Once you have selected your recipe, the fridge can then automatically send information to other LG connected devices such as pre-heating the oven. Alexa will also guide you through each step of the process, for a stress-free cooking experience.
With the InstaView ThinQ you won’t even have to open the fridge to check exactly what’s inside. Just knock on the screen twice to turn it transparent and make sure you have everything you need. Not only does this ensure the products remain perfectly chilled at all times, but it saves significant amounts of energy.
You can even check on the contents of your refrigerator at the grocery store thanks to the LG smart fridge boasting a 2.0 megapixel panoramic super-wide-lens camera that captures images of the interior from a variety of angles. This way you can simply access the LG app via your smartphone and immediately know what produce you need to buy.
Organise and entertain
With so much time being spent in the kitchen, whether it is cooking or simply socialising with friends and family, having the ability to use a fridge as more than a storing device is crucial. With the LG InstaView ThinQ, you can manage your calendar, check the weather, leave memos and reminders, and even play music from your Spotify account.
In fact, the fridge features LG Bluetooth audio speakers that are hidden seamlessly on top of the refrigerator so the whole family can stream music wirelessly. In addition, you can upload photos and set food expiration dates using the 29” HD transparent LCD touch-screen. And for an extra special occasion, you can set happy birthday messages for your loved ones. Just make sure there’s a cake waiting inside.
The idea of a smart kitchen is that in the future all devices will be connected so that they can predict an owner’s needs and reduce preparation time. With LG ThinQ appliances, this vision is moving ever closer.
